You’ll surely please the crowd with these festive July 4th menu items…

Create a tray of fruit cut into star shapes or fruit skewers made with red and blue fruits.

Eye-catching Independence Day appetizers include veggies trays with cherry or grape tomatoes, red pepper slices and blue tortilla chips surrounding a creamy vegetable dip. Charcuterie boards brimming with white cheeses such as soft slices of mozzarella and all sorts of red Italian meats.

Any red drink will add a festive flair. Consider cherry spritzers or a red fruit smoothie…and as my Mother always said, “It’s all in the presentation.” So let’s add a bit of panache with a garnish, shall we? Try watermelon punch garnished with a slim wedge of watermelon along each glass’ edge, bloody Marys lined with a spicy red rim, a strawberry daiquiri adorned with a strawberry of course, and Shirley Temples are always sweeter with red sugar on the rim. For extra pizzazz, make ice cubes ahead of time with blue and red juice or clear water cubes with beautiful blueberries and raspberries frozen inside.

On to dessert! Make gorgeous parfaits with layers of a mix of blueberries and strawberries, then vanilla pudding, fruit, then whipped cream, then fruit once again. Or bake your favorite sheet cake and top it with a flag – Use vanilla icing or whipped cream, blueberries for the star area and slices strawberries for the stripes. A vanilla blue and red poke cake can be fun too.

Whatever you decide, we, at Perrine’s Produce, want to thank our veterans for their service and we wish you all a very festive 4th!
