What you probably know is that pork can be an inexpensive alternative at mealtime. However, what you may not know is that pork is also rich in nutrients, including iron, zinc and vitamin B. It’s also a good food to eat if you are looking to build up muscle mass. Pork is also an outstanding source of protein without many of the health risks associated with red meat. Plus, pork is delicious!
It’s barbeque season too, so let’s blow the lid off some side dishes that go excellent with pork! Whether you prefer it in the form of chops, ribs, tenderloin or a nice, juicy roast, pork pairs really well with sweet sides such as applesauce, sweet potatoes or bubbly baked beans made with brown sugar, karo syrup, a little ketchup and bacon. My mouth is watering right now!
Macaroni and cheese is also a great go-to side dish for pork, as well as scalloped potatoes, German potato salad (or regular potato salad) and all types of pasta salads. By the way, Perrine’s Produce provides a nice selection of side salads from Greek pasta salad, to creamy potato salad and more…if you’d like to make things more convenient!
If you’re aiming for a healthy meal, slices of pork tenderloin with a big tossed salad full of mixed greens, cucumber, tomatoes and shredded carrots with a homemade vinaigrette can be lovely for lunch or dinner.
Pulled pork goes really well with southern greens or a nice, crunchy coleslaw. Bake your pork roast with apples and onions; or serve everything from freshly baked biscuits, to glazed carrots or green beans!
