As we head into cold and flu season, it is good to bolster our defenses, and there are a slew of yummy fruits and vegetables that can boost our immune systems and help keep us healthy…
First off, I would be crazy not to head this list with blueberries which are jam-packed with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties and tons of vitamin C. Actually, all berries are good berries. For instance, blackberries, an often underrated berry, is full of fiber and rich in vitamin C. Strawberries are also an excellent source of vitamin C (and an amazing excuse for shortcake).
For a high dose of vitamin C, don’t forget oranges. In fact, all citrus fruits are an exceptional source for vitamin C. Did you know that eating a grapefruit will fulfill over 100 percent of your daily vitamin C requirements?
Looking to bolster your immune system with a healthy dose of iron? Look no further than spinach. Spinach and other dark leafy greens are a wonderful source of antioxidants, fiber and vitamins A, C and E.
Avocado is an excellent source of vitamins C and E and one of the best sources of soluble fiber. Add it to your salads, wraps, toast and more!
Do you know your ABC’s? Broccoli has those three vitamins in spades, and is also full of fiber; and if you are looking for an immune boosting powerhouse, just a half of a cup of red bell pepper will fulfill your daily requirement of vitamin C and promote hydration and good gut health.
Even herbs get in on the immune boosting mix. Garlic and ginger are two amazing immune boosters, so go ahead and get your stir-fry on!
