Who says nutritious food has to be boring? Here are some ideas for fun treats made from fruits and vegetables that will have your kids begging for more!
Peanut butter and sliced banana sandwiches, waffles topped with fresh blueberries and colorful smoothies made from everything from mangos to berries are always a delicious treat, but how abut we take that up a notch? You can start by placing those smoothies in popsicle molds with sticks.
Cookie cutters can turn almost anything into fun. Try any shape you choose on watermelon or slice apples sideways and cut the core out with a heart shaped cookie cutter. That is especially fun on Valentine’s Day. Speaking of holidays, avocado toast is the perfect canvas for making a green monster face just for breakfast or lunch on Halloween!
You can do the same with Nutella spread on a rice cake and then topped with fruit for decoration or a plain pizza that you decorate with colorful veggies. Make a rainbow, smiley face or whatever the little ones choose. Kids love making their own “food art”!
Animals are a fan favorite too, so how about a cute little strawberry mouse? Simply core your berry, cut it in half and place the cut side face down so it lays flat on a plate. You can use pine nuts for ears and a nose, and a peeler and a carrot will get you a flexible tail!
You can also create great little dip cups from hollowed out peppers. Place ranch dip in the bottom and use tall skinny veggies like carrot and celery sticks for dipping. You can even add grape tomato skewers for a little panache!
