Hey Baby! Did you know that you can make your own baby food with quick and easy purees that are sure to please; and what better way to feed your baby than with farm fresh, homemade, nutritious food?
Seriously, it’s no more than a couple step process and you’re off to the races. Here are a few examples that will no doubt make you and your baby fast fans…
Peel and roughly chop apples. Place them in a saucepan with water and cook until tender. Cool slightly and place them in the food processor, blending until smooth.
You can do the same with pears, sweet potatoes, carrots, mangoes, peaches, apricots and yellow or butternut squash and more.
For bananas, roast at 325 degrees on a parchment paper lined baking sheet for just over 10 minutes or until they start to brown. You may want to save some on the side for yourself because this one is delicious over ice cream! Just a word to the wise: Freeze immediately to avoid browning.
Tip: These recipes are all freezer-friendly, and a really simple method of freezing your homemade baby food is to place it in ice cube trays and then pop out the cubes and place them in freezer bags for easy prep later.
Just an aside: The freezer tip above even makes mixing and matching flavors a breeze. Mixes that make delicious pairings include pear and blueberry, apple and sweet potato and banana mango. Another nice idea is to pair vegetables that may have a stronger flavor – like broccoli or spinach – with avocado for a milder, nutritious mix.
