Learn How to Make Beef Jerky

It’s classic and timeless. A gold watch for retirement or a button down Oxford, you say? Nope, beef jerky! It’s the “other” finger food…the perfect pick-me-up…known for its unbeatable convenience, portability and shelf life…an indulgent snack, yet high in protein.

Want to make some? Here is all you’ll need:

  • 10 ounces of soy sauce
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 cup of burgundy wine
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper
  • 2 teaspoons of liquid smoke

First cut meat into 1/4″ thick strips. Mix all of the other ingredients thoroughly. Marinate meat with mix in a sealed bag or plastic container with a lid for 24 hours in your frig (You can go as little as 4 hours, but the longer, the better.)

Pull the meat out and lay it out on racks making certain that none of the pieces are touching. Dehydrate, bake or smoke in your equipment of choice at 160-180F or until your desired texture is reached. Then just let your jerky rest until it reaches room temperature.

Now all you have to do is eat it. Enjoy!
